The Bande à Fifi are raking it in, everyone knows that by now, and it clearly isn't about to stop. With more than 7.8 million admissions between the first two Alibi.com films, then over 6 million for Le Marsupilami, their latest outing, Philippe Lacheau and his gang keep lining up box-office hits. Alibi.com 2 was long Philippe Lacheau's biggest success with its 4.2 million viewers, before Le Marsupilami came along and stole its thunder. And naturally, when a franchise works that well, it's hard to let Greg and his sidekicks retire. After confirming last June that a third instalment was in the works, Philippe Lacheau has now revealed the release date for Alibi.com 3, due in French cinemas on 2 February 2028, five years after the second film.
For now, the plot of this new instalment remains a mystery, but we already know that Philippe Lacheau will be back both in front of and behind the camera. Julien Arruti, Élodie Fontan and Tarek Boudali will also be returning. Shooting is set to begin this winter, after several location scouting trips currently under way in Morocco, while the script is nearing completion.
A guaranteed hit?
Launched in 2017, the Alibi.com saga started out with 3.6 million admissions in France, but six years later Alibi.com 2 did even better with roughly 4.2 million viewers, taking the franchise past 7.8 million admissions overall. A very tidy score that made the film Philippe Lacheau's biggest success, until Le Marsupilami arrived last February and has now sailed past the 6 million mark.
For anyone who hasn't seen the first two Alibi films (they do exist), Philippe Lacheau played Greg, the boss of an agency specialising in cooking up alibis for clients keen to hide their little secrets. In Alibi.com 2, Greg ended up marrying Flo after another avalanche of lies and far-fetched situations. We'd imagine a fresh mess awaits the gang in this third episode. While we wait for Alibi.com 3, the Bande à Fifi will be back together as soon as next year in Somnambule, the new comedy directed by Tarek Boudali, due in cinemas on 3 February 2027.
