We're already at the end of October, which means the return to Arrakis is coming up fast. Warner Bros. has just dropped the final trailer for Dune Part Three, due for worldwide release on 18 December 2026. Denis Villeneuve is back with Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides to round off his trilogy, and he fully intends to deliver a film even more intense than the previous two. These first images set the tone: a darker story, and action that looks set to take up far more room.

Paul Atreides faces the consequences of his power

Adapted from Frank Herbert's 'Dune Messiah', this third instalment picks up Paul's story after the events of Dune Part Two. Now emperor, he has to reckon with the fallout from his rise, as his power draws fresh threats. But Denis Villeneuve doesn't just want to tell the next chapter of this sci-fi epic; he's said he wants to explore a more human story, in particular the rift opening up between Paul and Chani (played by Zendaya) after the betrayal she felt at the end of the last film. Villeneuve has also announced a shift in tone for this new instalment, describing it as a beefier, more intense thriller with a stronger focus on action. You can sense that shift in this final trailer, where Paul seems increasingly trapped by his own position, even as he tries to work out what the future holds for him.

Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya will of course be back for this third episode, joined by Florence Pugh as Irulan in a much bigger role, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica (a smaller part this time round) and Javier Bardem as Stilgar. Jason Momoa makes a grand comeback after dying in the first film, returning as Duncan Idaho in a new form. As for Anya Taylor-Joy, she'll be playing Alia Atreides in what looks like a real character turn. The cast also welcomes Robert Pattinson, lending his features to Scytale, one of the film's big villains, along with newcomers Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke. As with the first two films, Denis Villeneuve is aiming for an experience built for the big screen, with a hefty marketing push around IMAX 70 mm screenings, even if the film wasn't shot entirely in that format. Now we just have to wait until 18 December to find out how the director plans to close out this vast science-fiction saga. Avengers Doomsday lands the same day, by the way...
