We're only a few weeks away from the release of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, and both Infinity Ward and Beenox (they've worked hand in hand on this one) have unveiled a new trailer, this time dedicated to the PC version, along with details of its main new features. Activision is promising a version capable of adapting to a wide variety of set-ups, with over 800 customisation options and a target of 90fps on the recommended spec. Let's get into the details — but let's watch that trailer together too.

PC Master Race

First thing to know: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will support every type of display on the market, from 1080p to ultrawide, via 1440p (2K, basically) and 4K, obviously. All of it boosted by DLSS 4.5, FSR Redstone and XeSS 3 to improve performance. And of course, ray tracing will be available in the single-player campaign, in multiplayer and in DMZ mode. We also learn that, on the visual side, there'll be a new option called 'Enhanced FOV', which is in fact an HDR10+ system that automatically adapts contrast and brightness, plus several extra settings for sharpness, shadows and lighting. In short, no more breaking your head over the settings yourself — the game will do it automatically and optimise for whatever screen you've got. Lovely stuff.

Minimum & recommended

Elsewhere, to hit 90 frames per second at 1080p Full HD on high settings, Activision recommends a Ryzen 5 3600 or a Core i7-8700K, 16GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 6600 XT, a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or an Intel Arc B580. The minimum spec, meanwhile, asks for a Ryzen 5 1400 or a Core i5-6600, 8GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 470, a GeForce GTX 970/1060 or an Intel Arc A580. Either way, 115GB on an SSD is required.

That said, if you want to enjoy ray tracing at 4K (upscaled), you'll need to step up to 32GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 9070 XT or a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, while TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot will be mandatory on PC. Don't worry, though: the game will include a benchmarking tool to test your set-up before you play and give you recommendations for tweaking the settings. Rather handy, that.

A new multiplayer mode

Among the content additions, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will also introduce 'Collateral', a competitive mode inspired by the famous 'Search & Destroy'. Essentially, two teams alternate between attack and defence around two sites, with a money system letting you buy weapons and equipment between rounds. Respawns, killstreaks and custom classes are disabled, however, which means that once you're eliminated you'll have to sit out until the next round.

Lastly, note that PC preloading kicks off on 15 October at 9am (Pacific Time), ahead of early access to the campaign on 16 October and the full release on 23 October.
