We're going to have to wait a little longer to get our hands on the follow-up to Kena: Bridge of Spirits. Announced back in February during a State of Play, Kena 2: Scars of Kosmora had dropped off the radar completely after its first trailer. In fact, we'd heard next to nothing about the game since that reveal, to the point where a delay was starting to look like a fair bet. Ember Lab has now confirmed what many had begun to suspect: Kena 2 won't be out in 2026, but in 2027. The studio says it needs more time to finish and polish this new adventure, which is a good deal more ambitious than the 2021 original. The usual spiel, in other words — except that by way of compensation, we do get some gameplay details courtesy of a write-up on the PlayStation Blog.

Kena 2 delayed to 2027, but we've got plenty of interesting new details

A bigger, more ambitious sequel

According to the people behind the game, the move to 2027 is what the studio needs to hit the ambitious targets it has set itself. Mind you, Kena 2: Scars of Kosmora will still be a linear adventure, just with a larger world and plenty more to find off the beaten track. No open-world structure, then, but a noticeably denser adventure all the same. Story-wise, the sequel takes Kena to the island of Kosmora, where she sets out to better understand her role as a spirit guide — and her own past. Her childhood friend Orfio reckons the island might hold the answers to the questions the pair of them have been asking.

And since Kosmora is a bigger place, the developers have worked in a way to get around: Kena can call on a crystalline canine spirit (a mystical wolf, basically) that doubles as a mount for covering ground more quickly. Our handsome beast isn't just a taxi service, though — it can also fight alongside Kena, whether she's in the saddle or on foot. Our young warrior can likewise call on her tamed wolf to crack the game's puzzles. Ember Lab is keen for this sequel to lean further into exploration and discovery.

So, see you next year, in 2027, to get a proper look at how Kena 2 plays.
