SNK keeps on bolstering the Fatal Fury City of the Wolves roster without pause, and is at last about to bring back one of the franchise's most iconic fighters. Kim Kaphwan, undisputed taekwondo master and a historic face of the saga, will join the roster on 24 September 2026 as part of Season 3. First appearing in Fatal Fury 2 back in 1992, Kim Kaphwan quickly established himself as one of the essential characters in the SNK universe. Convinced that taekwondo is the mightiest of all martial arts, the South Korean fighter also has a particularly keen sense of justice, summed up by a motto he has never let go of: “Evil is unforgivable.” But beyond his devastating kicks and his unbending temperament, Kim Kaphwan holds a special place in the series' history, and not just because he has been around since the very beginning. His sons, Kim Dong Hwan and Kim Jae Hoon, are playable fighters in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves too, as they have been since 1999 and the Garou instalment. And for the first time in Fatal Fury history, all three members of the Kim family are together in the same game.
Veteran status notwithstanding, Kim Kaphwan clearly hasn't lost an ounce of his swagger, and this version of Fatal Fury brings back his entire move set, along with a super that harks back to the Real Bout days, complete with the flaming phoenix to finish opponents off. Naturally, as with every new character, Arcade mode will also serve up a story — or something resembling one — following Kim through his daily training, as intense as ever despite the passing years.
Kim Kaphwan will be available on 24 September in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves for anyone who owns the Season 3 content. Players will also be able to give him a go ahead of release at Tokyo Game Show 2026, where the character will be playable early on the CFD Sales (Crowxis) stand.
