Tokyo Game Show 2026 is in full swing at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, and Sony Interactive Entertainment has pulled out all the stops to draw visitors to its PlayStation booth. Four games are playable, including Marvel's Wolverine, Monster Hunter Wilds Ascendance, Final Fantasy VII Rebellion and Ace Combat 8, but it's obviously GTA 6 that's hogging all the attention. Be warned, though: there's no getting your hands on a controller here, it's more of an immersive experience. Rockstar Games and PlayStation have teamed up to let visitors watch the game's extended look (that Netflix video) on a giant 300-inch screen, backed by technology that literally makes the floor shake beneath their feet.

GTA 6 is shaking up Tokyo Game Show 2026

Officially dubbed "Grand Theft Auto VI An Extended Look Theater", the experience is built around the near-27-minute trailer unveiled on Netflix on 27 August. Jason and Lucia, Vice City, the heists, the shootouts and the car chases are projected onto a 300-inch screen, but above all Sony has decided to add a physical dimension to the video via its Haptic Floor. The principle is simple: rather than just reproducing vibrations in a DualSense controller, the technology developed by Sony transmits vibrations and impacts directly through the floor and up into the viewer's seat. The idea is to sync those sensations with what's happening on screen, so it feels like the game's events are unfolding right around you.

And by all accounts, the result is rather impressive. During a shootout, for instance, the first gunshots produce genuine impacts felt through the seat. Nor does the system simply apply a uniform vibration: shots heard in the distance produce lighter tremors, while much closer gunfire comes with noticeably stronger jolts. Same goes when a character smashes through a wall or a particularly violent scene plays out on screen. The system tailors the vibrations to the nature of the action, with one-off impacts for certain events and continuous rumbling when the scene calls for it.

It's during the driving sequences, though, that the experience seems to move up a gear. When Jason starts his car, a faint vibration begins to build, growing stronger as the vehicle picks up speed. Bumps in the road, changes of direction and skids then trigger different reactions from the seat. The aim, obviously, is to make you feel like you're sitting in Jason and Lucia's car yourself. And during the chases, the system even layers the driving vibrations over those caused by gunfire, giving a far more physical feel to a sequence plenty of players already know by heart. Worth noting that the Haptic Floor isn't limited to action scenes, either. The musical sequences also make use of the setup, with vibrations synced to the rhythm of the soundtrack, particularly during the nightclub segments. God, I wish I'd been there.

The PlayStation booth and its exclusive freebies

Tokyo Game Show 2026 is a particularly lively affair this year, but the PlayStation booth is clearly one of the spots where the crush is most impressive. From the moment the doors opened, visitors have been piling in to try to reach the GTA 6 corner, with an extra incentive for many of them: bagging the exclusive goodies handed out on site. T-shirts, collector's items and other GTA 6 PlayStation promotional giveaways quickly became hotly coveted prizes, to the point that videos showing the chaos on the ground have been popping up all over social media.

The PlayStation booth also showcases several other products, including the Marvel's Wolverine collector's edition PS5, the new PULSE Elevate wireless speakers, the PULSE and PULSE Edge headsets, and the GTA 6-themed DualSense. Sony is also presenting its new LEGO collaboration built around the PlayStation brand.

GTA 6 is still slated for 19 November 2026 on PS5. That one's going to be absolute bedlam too.
