Tokyo Game Show 2026 was meant to mark the famous Japanese show's 30th anniversary with an exceptional five-day edition, running from Thursday 17 to Monday 21 September — a first in its history. But with the anniversary edition in full swing at Makuhari Messe, the organisers have just announced that the show's final day has been cancelled. The reason is simple and fairly logical: a typhoon is about to hit the Japanese capital.
In a press release, CESA (Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association) announced that Monday 21 September could not go ahead as normal because of Typhoon No. 25, which is set to reach the Tokyo region. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected in the afternoon, while transport could also be disrupted, making travel particularly tricky for visitors and exhibitors alike. Everyone's safety was therefore put first, with the show closing entirely for this final day.
Visitors will be able to get a refund
Naturally, visitors who had bought a ticket for the Monday will be able to request a refund. That said, the cancellation shouldn't turn the Tokyo Game Show news cycle on its head, since most of the big announcements and presentations have already been unveiled over the first four days. And any remaining reveals still in the pipeline can always be announced later by publishers and hardware manufacturers. In any case, as you can see, the queue for that final day was very much there.
