One of the genuine highlights of gamescom 2026 last month, Zoopunk is kind enough to show itself off again with a hefty gameplay video, which finally gives us a much clearer sense of TiGames' ambitions. And the Chinese studio clearly had a few surprises left up its sleeve, as a mysterious fourth hero turns up right at the end of the video. Set in the same universe as F.I.S.T., ZOOPUNK goes back to the origins of Torch City, an animal-populated metropolis on the brink of revolution. The video opens with Rayton, the rabbit already familiar to F.I.S.T. players, taking on machines aboard an elevated train crossing a snowy landscape before freeing imprisoned animals. We then meet Trixie the squirrel, who leads her team through a lush forest to the village of Marmotter. It's in this area that ZOOPUNK reveals an interesting evolution of its concept. Animals are no longer automatically pitted against machines, as the game also introduces rival animal factions, notably marmots and otters. The conflict looks set to be considerably more complex than a straightforward war between animals and robots.
Three heroes, three combat styles
The combat system lets you build a team of up to three characters, with the ability to switch between them in real time. Each hero has their own style and abilities, and you can chain their attacks together to trigger powerful Combo Skills. Rayton relies on fast combos on the ground and in the air before unleashing electrically charged attacks. Braton the rhino favours power and defence with chainsaw attacks capable of breaking enemy guards. Trixie, meanwhile, brings a far more mobile approach with her firearms, her gun-fu style and her ammo management. But the video closes on a fleeting glimpse of a fourth protagonist, a mysterious lynx wielding a long blade, about whom we know very little for now.
ZOOPUNK is due out on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, with no release date announced as yet.
