We're going to have to wait a little longer to get stuck into Faye's first big adventure in Kratos' stead. PlayStation's Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that God of War Laufey has been delayed: rather than arriving on 16 February 2027 as planned, it will now land on 20 May 2027. That's three extra months the studio intends to use to wrap up development and put the finishing touches to the game. The announcement was made on 4 November across Santa Monica Studio's social channels, with the date change accompanied by a message to players. « Since revealing God of War Laufey in June, we have been deeply grateful to see so much excitement around Faye's journey through the Everywhen », the team explained, saying it appreciates the trust fans have placed in it. Santa Monica Studio added that it wants to use the extra time to polish the game and push it to its full potential.

It's fair to say that God of War Laufey has stirred up plenty of curiosity since it was unveiled back in June, marking as it does a significant break with the series' history. For the first time in a mainline God of War, Kratos won't be the playable character. Instead, players take on the role of Faye, his wife in Norse mythology and Atreus' mother, whose death preceded the events of 2018's God of War. This new chapter takes Faye into the Everywhen, a strange afterlife where deities drawn from various mythologies vie for power. Waking after her own funeral in a world she doesn't know, she discovers that the arrangements she made to protect Kratos and Atreus are now under threat. To save the ones she loves, she'll have to take on the gods who rule this realm.

A three-month delay is relatively modest, all told, and we'd imagine further announcements will be along in due course to show off more gameplay. We'll be here to keep you posted.
