With five eras brought together in a single adventure, it was obvious that Stranger Than Heaven would enjoy giving each of them a brief showing. After taking us to Kokura (1915), then Kure (1929), SEGA now invites us to discover 1943 Osaka, and more specifically the famous Minami district.

Running for nearly 2 minutes, the footage lets us watch Makoto Daitô wandering through places that blend tradition and modernity (as the saying goes). Given that it's the creators of the Yakuza series (RGG Studio) behind Stranger Than Heaven, it comes as no surprise when we're told that “the city's charming backstreets and alleyways have been recreated with a remarkable level of detail.” That was already true back in Kazuma Kiryû's day, which makes the atmosphere particularly immersive.

Between tradition and modernity

We're also told that, while showbiz will be everywhere in Stranger Than Heaven, it's in Osaka that it takes on real significance. Maxime has in fact put together a piece going into more detail on this side of the game. Not only will you have to keep an eye on the finances, but Makoto Daitô will also have to slip into a producer's shoes to manage the live performances. In short, a head for business will be essential if you want to climb the underworld ladder.

While we wait for SEGA to drop the two videos devoted to Atami (Shizuoka, 1951) and Shinjuku (Tokyo, 1965), a reminder that Stranger Than Heaven is due out on 15 January 2027 on Xbox Series, PS5 and PC
